Within the expansion, new adjacent dormitories Jackson Hall and Wheaton Hall (now Trinity Hall) were constructed at the same time. These three dormitories were known as a unit as "South Campus dormitory," and later named for long-dead Trinity [[presidents|presidents]], including Smith Hall, named after the [[smith_george_williamson|Rev. George W. Smith]] (1883-1904). Construction began in 1964 and the dormitory was ready for occupancy in fall 1966. It opened with single rooms and multi-student suites. In fall 1982, Smith Hall was designated as the "Quiet Dorm" for 39 student residents. Residents were prohibited from playing loud music and games in the hallways. The initiative of a quiet living space was fostered and promoted by Trinity student Michael Ziskind '84 and approved by the Office of Residential Life. The following year, [[frohman-robb_dormitory|Robb dormitory]] was also designated as a quiet dorm. ---- ===== Sources ===== [[https://www.trincoll.edu/bantam-network/residential-learning-community/living-at-trinity/neighborhoods/|The Bantam Network: Neighborhoods and Residential Communities]].
