Trowbridge Pool/Squash Facility
The Trowbridge Pool/Squash Facility was built in 1929, the first project in what would later become the Ferris Athletic Center. The swimming pool was enclosed inside with 4 lanes, and the squash courts were built directly above it. The space was upgraded in 1992, the pool expanding to have 8 lanes with added windows to allow for sunlight, lane dividers, and diving boards.
The pool was named in memorial of Samuel Breck Parkman Trowbridge, a class of 1883 alumni of Trinity. He was an architect, and had made plans for Trinity's campus, including the original ideas for the new gymnasium project featuring a pool and squash courts. His passing in 1925 before it's completion partly inspired the dedication to the facilities in his name. A cornerstone was also laid in the gymnasium in his honor, a box placed inside containing building plans, a copy of the Tripod, and college reports among other things.
