Pages
Each time you begin editing a new page, you will see a template that looks like this. Replace the genericized text, but not any of the dashes or brackets. The template will include:
- The page name in H1. If the page is about a person, list as first then last, with no credentials or salutations.
- a “Sources” section, separated with a horizontal rule; The Sources title should be in H2
Link using meaningful phrases; do not write out the URL longhand
- Cross link to other articles within wiki wherever possible
- Avoid linking to paywalled sources
For each entry in the main index (start page), create a one-sentence description
Use see and see also references when things have multiple names or acronyms
Article Length
Each article should address who, what, where, why and how, as much as possible. Photographs of places are always helpful. Articles should have a minimum of approximately 100 words, otherwise the topic should be folded into a larger topic.
Article depth/length: - Level 1: 100 words, minimal information - Level 2: a couple of paragraphs - Level 3: more in-depth coverage for major topics, e.g. library, athletics, etc.
Images
Add a caption to images using the imageBox plugin.
Just add [ ]
around the image tag.
[{{ImagePath|Caption}}]
The caption can be formatted.
Sources
- For direct quotes in the text, use a superscript number that links to source
- The best way to do this is use the built-in footnote syntax described at the bottom of this page. In this case, you can use an abbreviated listing of the source, e.g. Knapp and Knapp, pg. 245.
- Paraphrased information doesn’t have to be linked but the source should still be listed
- List sources in chronological order with most recent at the top
- Sample citation: History of Trinity College (1967) by Glenn Weaver, pp. 34-40.
