The Marshal of the College is the person chosen to direct formal events occurring on campus, most notably Commencement. This can include leading the alma mater, directing people to their seats, and guiding the students to walk/gather in an organized manner. They, along with their Assistant Marshal's, are listed in the Commencement Programs of the year they had directed. | Though modern-day marshals are typically professors who have their duties limited to solely directing commencement proceedings, the early Marshal of the College participated in events year round. Marshals were also students, elected while still undergraduates of the college. Their duties included leading processions during funerals and organizing large intercollegiate meetings during the school year. |
