Natatorium
The Natatorium is Trinity's indoor swimming pool and is located in Ferris Athletic Center.
The pool is 25 meters long with 8 lanes, a moveable bulkhead separating a 14-foot-deep well, and 2 diving boards (one- and three-meters). A digital scoreboard connected to an automatic timing system displays results for all lanes simultaneously. Seating accommodates 200 spectators. Construction of the pool was approved in 1990 by the Board of Trustees and was completed in January 1992. The estimated cost of construction was around $2.3 million, accomplished through fundraising efforts.
Both men's and women's diving and swimming teams (and at one point, the men's water polo squad) utilize the Natatorium. Previously, the teams had used the Trowbridge Pool, which was built in 1929 and was one of the first facilities to be constructed in the Ferris Athletic Center. By the 1990s it was outdated, and had even been called “the second worst in New England” by Trinity's Athletic Director at the time, Rick Hazelton. The new Natatorium allowed for much needed upgrades, including increased lanes and more natural light (something the Trowbridge Pool had distinctly lacked).
The new pool was dedicated on May 16, 1992 and continues to be used today.
