Summit Suites East
Located on the south side of the Trinity College campus, Summit Suites East is one of three dormitories currently housing upper-year students: Summit Suites North, South, and East.
Summit Suites East opened in the fall of 2000 as part of the College's 1997 Master Plan, with the mission of bringing the residential campus into the twenty-first century. The Summit Suites were constructed by architects William Rawn Associates and the Gilbane Building Company. The impressive Tower, built to mimic the rounded elements of the Trinity Chapel, originally housed the Tutorial College, a program for sophomores looking for intellectual enrichment.
The building had space for over 50 second-year students and included a multipurpose large hall that sat 60, a kitchen, common rooms, and four faculty offices. There are five floors in Summit East, with single bedrooms and quads. While students living in single rooms share a bathroom, all quads contain a private common area and bathroom. Now the dorm houses an estimated 60 students.
Also known as the Fred as of 2006, Summit Suites East is unique in that in order to live there, students must submit an application. The dorm's goal is to create non-exclusive, alternative events every Friday.
