Widener Gallery
The Widener Gallery is Trinity College’s main formal exhibition space and is located in the Austin Arts Center. The space is approximately 1,200 square feet and hosts exhibitions by faculty and visiting artists. During the dedication of the Austin Arts Center in 1965, it was announced that the gallery was named after George D. Widener, who received an honorary doctor of laws degree from Trinity in 1959. Widener was chairman of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the National Museum of Racing in Saratoga Springs, New York.
The Widener Gallery has hosted exhibitions by many notable individuals including Josef Albers in 1965 and Richard Tuttle ’63 in 1996. Pieces by famous artists such as Picasso, Renoir, Robert Mapplethorpe, Cindy Sherman, and René Magritte, among others, have been displayed in the gallery. The space continues to be a venue showcasing both local as well as nationally and internationally known artists.
