Summit Suites East

Located on the south side of the Trinity College campus, Summit Suites East is one of three dormitories housing upper-year students: Summit Suites North, South, and East.

The Summit Suites East featured on the Winter 2001 edition of The Trinity Reporter

Summit Suites East, also known as the Fred, is unique in that in order to live there, students must submit an application. The dorm's goal is to create non-exclusive, alternative events every Friday. The events are open to all students and have included events like !!!!. The dorm gets its name from English and Film Studies professor, Fred Pfeil, who died in 2005 after a long battle with cancer. Professor Pfeil's “pursuit of open-mindedness and intellectualism” is honored through this project.

There are five floors in Summit East, with single bedrooms and quads. While students living in single dorms share a bathroom, all quads contain a private common area and bathroom. The dorm houses an estimated 60 students.

Unlike other dorms, Summit East has no Residential Advisor. The dorm is run by those who live in it, with a few selected members working on day-to-day operations. Positions include serving as a community facilitator, event coordinator, advertising, alumni liaison, and more. The dorm is also led by the Fred Constitution, which is used to aid the decisions of student leaders and to provide guidance for electing officers, conducting weekly meetings, and hosting activities and events.

Summit Suites East opened in the fall of 2000 as part of the College's 1997 Master Plan, with the mission of bringing the campus into the twenty-first century. The Summit Suites were constructed by architects William Rawn Associates and the Gilbane Building Company.
