Funston Hall
Funston Hall is a student dormitory located in the South Campus area adjacent to Smith Hall.
The architects for the two million dollar dormitory were Kilham Beder & Chu of New York. The general contractor was The Associated Construction Company of Hartford. The dormitory opened in the fall of 1978 with housing for 97 students in 57 single rooms and 10 four-person suites. Students had a direct say in the interior décor of the building through a committee organized by then-director of residential services, Tina Dow.
Funston was also the first student dormitory in the Connecticut, if not in the nation, to be fully equipped for access for persons with physical disabilities. Fixtures in Funston included: extra-wide corridors and stairs, wooden guide rails and carpets in the halls, an elevator with Braille buttons, as well as accessible showers and restrooms and ramp access from the outside.
The Trustees voted to name the dormitory in 1982, in honor of former Trinity president G. Keith Funston '32.
